L’obra d’Eastman sorgeix d’un estudi pictòric d’imatges derivades de revistes de moda, objectes decoratius i representacions de personatges populars, que s’entrellacen amb narracions personals. Les seves pintures, sovint en un format petit i íntim, contenen pinzellades soltes i sovint semblen executades d’una manera intencionadament tosca, que busca desenfocar la imatge i eliminar l’atractiu delicat inicial. Amb això, i com diu Eastman, trenca i qüestiona la pesada herència que va caure sobre les seves espatlles en el moment en què va decidir pintar.

    Mari Eastman (1970, Berkeley, CA) viu i treballa a Chicago. Ha estudiat a l’ School of the Art Institute de Chicago i al Smith College a Northampton.
