Olarn Chiaravanont’s abstract paintings are populated by a recurrent variety of shapes, which float on light and spacious backgrounds. For the artist, painting is the contrasting act of allowing the wrist to freely move on the canvas and the constraint of making a conscious conceptual decision. Chiaravanont not only makes room for the possibility of mistakes, he presupposes them – because every painting leaves something open to the artist, it supplies the impulse to create the next work.
Olarn Chiaravanont (b.1986 Bangkok, based in London). He studied at Central Saint Martins (London) and Goldsmith (London). Past solo exhibitions include Sassy (Bombon Projects, Barcelona 2017), raum1 (Galerie Koal, Berlin 2013), Olarn Chiarvanont (Galerie Koal, Berlin 2012) or Deep Dots (WTF Gallery, Bangkok 2011). Past group shows include As I took her arm she stared through my face at the dark branches of the trees over my head (Yellow, Varese 2018), Le Peintre de la Pipe (Passatge Studio, Barcelona 2015) or Painted Realities (Hanmii Gallery, London 2014).
