For Liste 2024 we present a site-specific installation by Ludovica Carbotta that is part of her ongoing project called Monowe.
Monowe comprises a series of installations that simulate an imaginary city designed to be inhabited by a single person. The project runs through various structures that emulate public and private architectures such as the House, the Courthouse, the Factory or the Museum.
Halfway between ruin and work, Monowe aims to replicate the current solitary and individualistic urban lifestyle, radicalizing it to the point of creating an extreme condition where only a single inhabitant exists. On the one hand, the project responds to the growing fear of the other, and on the other, it reflects the model of the utopian city, contradicting its very raison d’être: no longer as a human settlement of many individuals but as a place of and for a single person.
Monowe’s architectures have been shown separately and together in different contexts, always adapting and adding new forms and layers of knowledge. We propose a new chapter that expands and adapts the structure of the Museum in Liste with new works that the artist is currently developing.
