For NADA NYC we present a solo booth by Pere Llobera. This presentation will be the first time that Llobera shows in NYC, a very important place for him in terms of artistic references. We approach this proposal as a presentation of his work and his imaginary.
Pere Llobera is, above all, a figurative painter. However, his constant crisis of the painting profession, as well as his voluntary escape from technical virtuosity – and even the legitimacy of a style – lead him to approach painting from a genuine specificity which intensifies the conceptual over the formal. Therefore, his painting is rather a system of thought, an ideological construction that, from the canvas (and derivatives), frees itself from the narrative and bets on a poetic tension.
“In the last few years, whenever I have a canvas before me, I try to see my painting as a non-bidimensional construct; as if within each piece there were a kind of deepness through which I can move, store ideas and create dialogues. To paint canvases in which one can ‘live’… believing in the potential dimension of a painting and converting it into something so much more powerful than a mere image. With the spirit of ‘playing field’; ‘paintings as object-holders; ‘holes in the wall’; or however one wishes to call it, I present what I wish to be my first presentation in NYC” Pere Llobera.
